There's always some pressure to create the "perfect" home with the perfect decor, the perfect color, and the perfect furniture. Decorating shouldn't be something to stress over! Peoples' tastes change over the years, and interior design is constantly innovating. This is why when the One Room Challenge comes around, we get so excited to see how interior design bloggers choose to update their homes over the course of six weeks.
Let's follow Sarah, an insurance executive and the voice behind Life on Virginia Street, through her dining room refresh! We begin when she first moved into the home three years ago. The room was painted green, which she liked, but didn't feel that it worked with her vision of her home. She replaced the green with gray, and opted for a darker, more neutral theme.
And so the dining room remained that way for two years, until Sarah decided that she was ready to make the space flow better with the rest of her home. Over the course of 2015, she worked on updating the space to make it lighter and brighter.
Gone went the dark gray, replaced by lighter walls and new coastal blue decor. But the room never felt finished, so for last October's One Room Challenge, she decided to tackle the dining room once more, with a little help from Barn & Willow. To follow her process, start here!
If you're planning to refresh your home, we always recommend that you make a mood board to help you fully flesh out your idea. Likewise, Sarah wanted to complete her coastal decor theme, and created a mood board to reflect that. Her plans included switching the dining room furniture out in favor of lighter colored ones, as well as new window coverings in the form of our Belgian Flax Linen flat roman shades in Off White.
When you're on a time crunch, six weeks goes by really quickly! Here's the final look, completed by the perfect roman shades. Our Belgian Flax linen fabric in Off White leans a bit warm as a swatch, but with the addition of a privacy lining, she knew that the light would filter through to give her the color she was looking for. Order a free set of Belgian linen fabric swatches to ensure you'll get your perfect shade.
While the room is still a work in progress, we think that it looks pretty good so far
