5 online interior design services to help you design your home

As some of you might know, Barn & Willow is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, smack dab in the middle of the Silicon Valley. We were part of Batch 15 of 500 Startups, a startup accelerator that has backed such companies like Behance, Twilio, and Udemy, so we're pretty immersed in this environment.

That's why whenever an interior design or home decor startup pops up on our radar, our interest is immediately piqued, so we've compiled a list of online interior design startups who can help you figure out how to design your home. While each of these businesses offer interior design services, they're all a tad different, so we've highlighted the kind of services they offer.

Decorist

Location: San Francisco, CA

Rates: Starting from $299 per room

Website: https://www.decorist.com

Timeline: Dependings on what type of designer (Classic, Elite, or Celebrity), it may take from two weeks to 60 days.

Like the majority of the companies highlighted, Decorist is an online-only based interior design service. Customers first specify what room they wish to redesign, then provide details about their room and budget, likes and dislikes, and inspiration photos for the designer. While customers can choose what designer to work with, they also offer a matching service for those who are unsure. After the design is completed, clients can choose to use the Decorist's complimentary Order for Me service to order their designers' suggested furniture pieces.

Havenly

Location: Denver, CO

Rates: Starts from $79 per room

Website: https://havenly.com/

Timeline: 5 days to provide initial concept, and an additional 5 days after feedback given for final concept

Havenly is also all online. In order to gauge the client's design preferences, customers first take a style survey, then upload images of their room to Havenly's platform. They then choose an interior designer who then produces two custom concept boards. A more indepth service is also available at $199 per room, and includes suggested furniture placement and $50 credit towards furniture purchases.

Homepolish

Location: New York City, NY

Rates: Complimentary consultation, then $349 for a 3-hour single day session, to $130 per hour for a minimum 10+ hour session

Website: https://www.homepolish.com/

Timeline: Depends on the designer.

Homepolish differs from the other interior design firms mentioned in that rather than a flat fee per room, it charges by the hour. Customers can either choose to meet with their designer in-person (in one of the 15 cities) or by video. Like other brands, Homepolish partners with select vendors to provide a "Shopping List," where clients have the option to use a one-click checkout to purchase goods across multiple furniture and home decor brands. (Our founder actually used Homepolish to help her redesign her home - read about that here!)

Homee (Zoom Interiors)

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Rates: First design is free. For subsequent designs, a fee will apply.

Website: http://homeeapp.com/

Timeline: It depends, but you can pay a fee to skip the waitlist

Homee burst onto the scene after a Shark Tank appearance as Zoom Interiors. Their interior design service is currently only available on the iOS, which means that Android users can't take part. With the app, customers can chat with the designer, view and work on design boards, and shop for the suggested furniture options.

Laurel and Wolf

Location: West Hollywood, CA

Rates: Starts at $399 per room

Website: https://www.laurelandwolf.com/

Timeline: For a single room, about 2 weeks.

Laurel and Wolf differs from the other interior design services in that once a project is submitted, at least three designers will submit style boards for the client's review. From there, one designer is selected, and they work with the client to create a room that suits their preferences. They also offer a Buy For Me service, where Laurel and Wolf will personally place the furniture orders for the customer.
