With everyone's favorite guilty pleasure movie, Fifty Shades Darker, coming out tonight, we thought that it's the perfect time to give you some gray styling inspiration.
Last week marked the launch of our Belgian Flax Linens in Light Gray and Shale, increasing our gray fabrics to four. (Read more here!) While wall color may change, we know that people don't tend to switch out window coverings as often. That's why we suggest choosing a neutral that will match with any of your decor choices. We'll show you how you can incorporate the timeless color into your home.
Dark on Dark
Create a dramatic ambiance with Belgian Laundered Linen Dark Gray or Shale curtains against deep colored walls. This low contrast look melds together, perfect for making rooms seem larger and endless. Emulate this look with a privacy lining to allow some light to come in during the daytime.
For a more polished approach with complete light blockage, opt for a blackout lining. We especially love pairing dark draperies against wall length windows to make the ultimate statement.
Dark on Light
Dark curtains on white walls add visual interest to any space. They don't need to be blackout lined - sheer or unlined ones like above still have a light airy feeling. While we've seen them mostly in Scandinavian styled interiors, they work well with rooms full of color as well, adding balance.
Flat, blackout lined roman shades in dark gray give more structure and greater contrast to white walls. Pair the dark shades with other similarly colored decor for a clean finished look.
Medium
When choosing drapery color, for a failproof option, we suggest that you go for a color that's one shade darker or lighter than your walls.
By going for a similarly colored shade of gray, your window treatments will accompany your existing wall color and not detract from other focal points.
Light on Dark
While we are huge fans of dark walls, sometimes they can feel overwhelming. Large windows and light colored decor can complement dark walls nicely, like in the example above with Belgian Flax Linen curtains in Mist Gray.
Light on Light
Similarly to how dark window coverings on dark walls can make a room seem larger, this logic applies to to light curtains as well. Light Gray curtains paired against walls in the same shade make a windows feel taller and the room more expansive.
With white walls, light gray curtains add just the slightest color contrast without removing the bright and fresh aura. From farmhouse to traditional decor, our Belgian Flax Linen in Light Gray works in any style home.
