Since our Herringbone Cotton Throw Collection release date is nearing, I chatted with our founder, Trisha, to get the inside scoop on this latest design. (Sign up HERE to be alerted the second our new throw is added to our store!)
So, the new Herringbone Throw is being released on May 27. That's exciting! How long has this throw been in the works?
Our Herringbone Throw manufacturer is based in India - Coimbatore (the south of India). They are one of the leading cotton mills in India known for their high quality standards of cotton products. We have been in talks with them since January and although they are a very well known mill, we always like to personally vet the quality, the team, the working environment and the work ethics of all our manufacturing partners. We met with their team several times and only when we were confident that they align with our philosophy, we placed our first batch of order with them. The mill produces everything from scratch.
These Herringbone Throws went from raw cotton to yarn, spinning, weaving and then finishing. It was a 2 month long process. Lots of work from a lot of hard working design-loving craftsmen have gone into it!
Why a Herringbone pattern?
Our design palette has always been elegant, chic and effortless. The herringbone pattern was introduced into the fashion textile space a few years back and I think it's here to stay. We wanted our cotton throw to be extremely soft to touch and feel. For summer it doesn't feel good to cuddle with a woolen throw or something that is too heavy so we wanted our cotton throw to have the perfect weight and the perfect soft feel. It is indeed a pure pleasure to touch and the herringbone weave on this fine cotton made perfect sense. Our designers are constantly thinking about designs which would accessorize a space effortlessly and our Herringbone Throw will be a clear winner there.
Everything in the Barn and Willow shop is made from top-notch producers from around the world. What country (or countries) is this throw being produced in?
This throw has been produced by one of the leading cotton mills of India. Founded in 1946, the mill is situated in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, in the city of Coimbatore. Coimbatore, also known as Kovai is the second largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu and is one of the largest cotton product exporters of India. Our decision to work with this mill was driven by the high quality standards of their cotton from start to finish, their awesome detail oriented team of craftsmen and their work ethics. They treat their employees well, who in turn deeply respect their work and the mill's history and heritage.
With orange, grey and blue, it may be hard to pick a favorite, but which one is yours?
Orange - fresh and bright.
Other than the Herringbone Throw collection, what else can we expect to see added to Barn and Willow this summer?
Our next collections will be of cotton throw pillows in modern abstract design patterns. Followed by a few new Belgian Flax linen curtain collections and sheer linen curtains and the final one is a 100% Tanzanian cotton throw collection woven by a highly respected group of cotton weavers of Tanzania. All of these are part of our summer collection. We are working on our winter collection now with weavers from some exotic lands in Asia and South America. Stay tuned. It will be a surprise for you all.
That sound so exciting! Thank you Trisha!
