The holiday season is a special time for Barn and Willow because our passion for interior design aligns perfectly with the holiday custom of staying indoors.
Whether it be for Christmas parties or just enjoying a quiet Saturday evening, what better way to enjoy your welcoming home than with a classic Christmas movie?
This year, we're sharing our favorite holiday movies for every occasion to help spread the holidays feels!
Family Get Together
You’ve volunteered to have the family Christmas party at your house this year, and are starting to regret it. You somehow have to entertain everybody all at the same time—something classy enough to impress your in-laws, but exciting enough to make sure the kids don’t get bored. Luckily for you, there’s a simple solution for this: pop in the movie, Elf. The whole room will burst out laughing at Will Farrell’s excellent portrayal of such an entertaining character, and the more critical will still be pleasantly surprised by the compelling plot line. We finally found a movie that everybody can agree on? It’s a Christmas miracle!
A Trip Down Memory Lane
If there’s one thing that adults can all agree upon, it’s that we love to feel like young again. Whether it be playing games with your nephews, or baking cookies with the family, it’s nice to feel that sweet nostalgia for a simpler time. If you’re in the mood to take a trip down memory lane, check out Home Alone. From giggling at 8-year-old Kevin’s childish antics, to feeling his longing to find his family again, this movie reminds you to take the seriousness out of adulthood for a bit and look at life through a child’s eyes.
Heartwarming Night By the Fire
Crazy week at work finishing up deadlines? Sometimes all you need is a cup of hot cocoa, a warm fire, and an innocent comedy to get you feeling cheery again. Grab your favorite fuzzy socks (fun pajama pants are optional but highly recommended!) and cozy up on the sofa with The Family Stone, Jingle All The Way, or Surviving Christmas. These films are guaranteed to make you feel all warm inside, and that’s not just from the cocoa!
Ringing in the Holiday Spirit
As we get older, we get busier. Between juggling your workload, to planning trips, to picking out presents, we often forget what Christmas is all about: appreciating time with friends and family. Sometimes, we need a reminder of this. To remember what a true, American Christmas is all about, pull out the classic A Christmas Story. Nothing compares to this holiday classic when it comes to remembering what this season is all about.
