There's a rustic, comfortable, shabby chic design style that's been swarming our Instagram and Pinterest feeds lately - modern farmhouse style!
Modern farmhouse combines the sleek clean lines of contemporary design with the cozy farmhouse aesthetic to create a uniquely fresh take on the country living inspired style.
Modern farmhouse style is known for its warmth and simplicity, characterized by natural textures and materials like wood or galvanized steel. While cream is still the color of choice, paired with neutrals, bright, bold hues can also be used.
For example, in the image above, the wooden stools are painted a bright red color, which stands out against the whitewashed paneling and walls. The red hue is reflected in the decor and appliances.
Natural wood accents are a must-have for any farmhouse style home, be it wood panels on a wall or exposed beams on the ceiling.
With furnishings, they do not need to have the perfect paint job. Farmhouse style emphasizes well-used and loved items. Chipping paint that exposes a piece's texture is well regarded.
Vintage decor pieces, or "vintage-inspired" items are a must! Farmhouse decor incorporates flea market and thrift store finds seamlessly. Antique signs or chalkboards work well with the rustic feeling.
Definitely don't forget the soft pieces! From window treatments to handmade quilts, modern farmhouse prefers pops of color over traditional floral or paisley prints. Mixing and matching soft goods of different textures is preferred, like in the home of Miss Mustard Seed, where she softened her windows with our Belgian Textured Linen curtains in Oyster, and her leather couch with that gorgeous blue and white quilt.
