View From Here With Jordana Nicholson

Meet Jordana, of @jordanaclaudia, a Nashville nesting photographer.  As renters in pursuit of the perfect home in Nashville, Jordana and her husband Trent have perfected the art of making a house a home...even if it's only temporary.

“With so many people moving here a day, homes get snatched up left and right,” Jordana explains. “Since we aren’t quite ready to purchase a home yet, we’ve been renting and it’s been great for us!”

A self described visual story teller, Jordana has a knack for  decorating her space to communicate comfort in a way that feels like you've been there before.

For this installment of View From Here, we sat down with Jordana,  to talk down about finding the one, how to make a house a home and her favorite view in the house.

Tell us about yourself. When did your love for interiors begin?

I reside in Nashville with my husband Trent. He’s a graphic designer and I’m a photographer and videographer. I’ve always had a passion for interior design. Decorating and organizing spaces just gives me life! When my husband and I got our first place together, that’s when I really started to have a lot of fun with designing. I’m no professional, but it’s so fun to make a space your own. Our style has really evolved over the years, but I feel like we’ve grown into one that probably won’t change for a while. I’m constantly inspired by European antiques and old world design which you can see bit and pieces of around our home.

Tell us the story about your Nashville home…or the story you’d like it to tell someday.

We currently rent out this 60’s style ranch home from friends of ours who are traveling through South America. We love this place of ours, even if our living situation is temporary. Though we won't be in this home forever, we’re pretty proud of the space we’ve created, working with the already painted walls and permanent objects in the house — the space just feels like us.

Laura Ingalls Wilder once said, “Home is the nicest word there is”.  We tend to agree. Describe your home in three words.

Cozy, comfortable and charming.

When it comes to styling your home, where do you stand? In other words, what’s most important to you.

I love for every room in our home to feel comfortable and lived-in, that’s the most important to me. I want our friends to feel like they can kick of their shoes and plop themselves on the couch. There’s nothing worse than entering a home that feels museum-like and almost too perfect.

How would you describe the style of your home? And do you draw inspiration from your work when it comes to decor?

I feel like my style is a little all over the place. It's so hard to describe. I love modern clean lines and neutral colors, but also love quirky pieces and beautifully patterned textiles. I would say my style is a bit old world with European/modern flair? I don't even know if that's a thing, but it sounds about right in my head. I'm forever gathering inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram design pages. A few favorites include: Amber Interiors, Emily Henderson, Sarah Sherman Samuel, and Jersey Ice Cream Co.!

One quirky or weird that that sort of defines your space? If there is one..

The  living room is quite narrow and quirky (to us!) so it forced us to get creative with the overall layout. I think we did a pretty decent job with where we placed furniture and such. The flow feels good and not too cluttered or tight. We also love the original vintage wallpaper that’s still hanging in the hallway.

What room or space do you spend the most time in and why?

For sure the living room and kitchen. Both flow right into each other which is so nice. We have a designated dining space, but we almost always find ourselves lingering in the kitchen and living room, even when we have guests over. The living room is always just so bright, warm and inviting to me, so I can see why others gravitate to this room as well. And as most everyone knows, the kitchen is always a hot spot for hangouts. I don’t know why, but people always hang out in the kitchen no matter how small it is, ha!

How do you see yourself growing in this space?

Well, to be honest, we’re not quite sure this will be the home we spend years in...but for right now, we’re just savoring and loving every minute here. We’ve made this house feel like home and that’s what it’s going to be for us until we’re ready to purchase a permanent place of our own someday! We’re super thankful for this place, that’s for sure.

We like to think there’s that one view for a person (in their home) is a truly sacred place, be it out your front door or through kitchen window.  Tell us about your favorite view from here in your home.

For me, it’s in our bedroom. Our room looks out into the big backyard and it’s always just so peaceful and serene. Especially right now in the spring when the trees are beginning to bud and the birds are singing. I love to just lay on our bed and stare out the window.
