We know that we've emphasized the light blocking, sound proofing benefits of blackout lining, but we have yet to explore its opposite: sheer curtains and shades. Sheer linen window treatments look great in any style of home, be it traditional or modern farmhouse, like in the photo above, offering a lightweight, airy feeling that softens the ambience of a room.
Sheer curtains and window treatments are unlined and translucent, which means that there's minimal light filtering. During daytime, sheers give privacy so others cannot see into the home, while offering optimal sunlight to enter a home.
Sheers don't need to be white. Light neutrals add a soft touch of color during the afternoon, and evening, without compromising maximum sunlight. Like in the example above with Belgian Sheer Linen curtains in Oatmeal, when the fabric covers the entire wall, extending well beyond the windows, it also creates a beautiful ombre effect as well.
Sheer curtains are also very versatile. With a traverse rod, they can be paired with blackout lined curtains, so you can have the best of both worlds.
While floor to ceiling sheer curtains are beautiful and dreamy, roman shades in sheer linens also give a similar effect, offering just the right balance between privacy and light control.
They don't need to be only used for windows, however! Sheers can also be used to add a delicate touch to a variety of other spaces. Sheer curtains hung on a ceiling mounted curtain rod can create a gorgeous canopy or a room divider.
